Spring Decorating: How To Make A Nest
After the Christmas decorations come down I’m pretty much done with winter. I’m ready for spring! I know, I know…it’s still a few months off.
The gray days of winter can be very disheartening. One way I like to brighten them up is to have spring inside!

I put together this arrangement from things I found around the house, a la Nester. I had a tiny birds nest and wanted a large one. So I just made it bigger!
How to put together a “make a bird jealous” nest.
First take a lonely little birds nest.

Gather some sticks and twigs in the yard.

Then add your nest to the twiggy pile.
Wrap some straw/dead grass/or vines in and around the sticks. Add a few leaves and you’re done!
Ta Da! A lovely nest. Be sure to take it inside or some bird may move right in!
See the moss ball in the photo? Come back on Thursday the 8th and I’ll tell you how I made it, pictures and all!

Good job of “nest remodeling/expansion”! I’ve always loved bird’s nests and what is inside them! Great idea to “rearrange” what treasures you can find to make it compatable with your project. To see the outside brought inside really helps us to look forward to the next season. Beautiful photography! Your nest in the hand is definitely worth two in the bush!

Your bird’s nest is adorable…it really looks like a “real” birdie would have crafted it! lol And the little vignette you created with the nest as a focal point makes such a pretty grouping…love it!

Very cute! We don’t have many gray days so winter is actually very much appreciated when it gets here, lol! I’ve currently got my Valentine’s decor up but as soon as that’s down I may have to try this as I really like it’s look.
Can’t wait to see the “all about” on your moss ball.
Enjoy your day and I’ll see you next week!

I love the idea. Do you have any ideas for making a large birds nest? One that would hold a dozen dyed Easter eggs to put on kitchen sideboard. I would like to do something different this Easter instead of putting them in a basket or a glass bowl. Any ideas Clever Laryssa?

Maryanne, I think you can just do a bigger version of this. If you don’t have a bird nest to start off with you can just use some moss. Try arranging it in a nest shape and start adding in your sticks and dried grasses. You might need to help hold things together with some wire as you make your base. If you put it into a basket or bowl it will help support your nest better. Let me know how it turns out! Hope this helps!

Thanks for the idea. I am making a list of things I need to purchase to try making my very own birds nest. I’m exicted! It has been very windy here in PA so I have my neighbors birch tree branches in my backyard. Perfect timing, huh? I will let you know how it works out. Peace, Maryanne
PS I love your site, I have spent the last hour looking around. You are very creative, and it is refreshing to see new ideas.
