How To Stay Well!
It’s amazing to be feeling better! After what my family just went through, I thought it would be good to remind myself and you, dear reader, to ….stay well! As a Christian, I believe the Bible is The Truth and God wants us to be healthy! I also know we should do what we can to stay healthy and the Lord will help us the rest of the way!
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who heals all thy diseases.” Psalm 103: 2&3

If you listen to the news you hear a lot about flu and cold season.
So, I thought I’d share what has helped our family stay well.
When our babies were sick I would have given anything to make their pain go away.
So after suffering through a few colds, I had enough!
It was time to be on the offense.
I found our there is SO MUCH we can do to keep from getting sick!
Here are a few things I’ve learned over the years:
Sugar is public enemy number one.
Eating one teaspoon can lower the immune system up to six hours.
Ever wonder why the flu season happens around the holidays?
Think about all of the pies, cakes, brownies, sugar cookies…
It’s hard not to eat sugar but it’s even harder to see your babies with what my daughter calls “booger nose”.
Enough said.
Over 80% of your immune system is located in the intestinal tract.
Help keep the digestive tract working well by taking a good quality probiotic or by eating naturally fermented foods, like yogurt or sauerkraut.
Peroxide is a wonderful helper in the fight against disease.
Bubble out your ears with peroxide.
(Just dip a cotton ball into the peroxide, lay on your side and use the cotton to drip peroxide into your ear canal.
Wait until you hear it stop bubbling and then tip your head and pour it out.
It’s helpful to have a hand towel on the pillow.)
I do this whenever we have any symptoms and it really seems to help. With little kids you can just take a cotton swab and dip it into the peroxide and gently put some into their ears.
If you are having a sore throat you can gargle with a mixture of half water and half peroxide.
Wash your hands, eat healthy foods, get plenty of rest and STAY WELL!
I hope these things help your family too. I’m not a doctor, so these are just tips from one Mom to another. May your family stay healthy this winter!
“… I am the LORD that healeth thee.” (Exodus 15:26 KJV)

It is amazing how much food can help or hinder or bodies. People are amazed how we stay so healthy, but we don’t eat junk food and I make almost everything from scratch, eat whole grains, etc.

Sherry,
Thanks for the comment!
I,too, am amazed that people don’t connect what they eat to the state of their health! I’m learning all I can and working on getting more fit everyday. Thanks for saying hi!

I had no idea about sugar and lowered immune system. Even though cold/flu season is over for us here, I’m going to store this information away for next year. My younger son is a sugar bug and always has a cold in the winter months. We’ve just started on the pro-biotics journey, so I’m hoping next year we’ll be much healthier.
Dh and I have been low-carb for a year and 3 months now. I caught a cold back in September when Hurricanes Ike & Gustave barreled through our area. I never connected it until today, because of the stress, I stopped eating low-carb. I ate white rice, candy, etc. Then I got sick. I attributed it to the stress. That’s the only time I’ve been sick since starting low-carb. Hmmm, something to think about.

These are all great tips. We do the hydrogen peroxide in our ears thing, too. I don’t really understand why it works, but it does (at least 80% of the time)!
Thanks, too, for joining in Fight Back Fridays!

Jen, Thanks for saying hi! I’m all for doing whatever it takes to help my family stay well!
Motherhen68,
Thanks for the comment! Who know that sugar could lower the immune system. When we eat refined carbs our bodies process them just like we had eaten white sugar! No wonder so many people have lowered immune systems!
Food Renegade,
Hydrogen peroxide does seem to help! Every time my ears are hurting I’ll bubble them out and the next day they feel so much better. Thanks for hosting Fight Back Fridays!

I just discovered your blog today. I love the “health” ideas you have there. I’m going to pass your “address” on to my daughter with her 2 1/2 yr. old — great info. Thanks!!!
I am very new to blogging — both the actual writing of and just the world of great blogs that are out there. I’ve enjoyed yours and will check out your older posts as time allows. Again….thanks.

Goodness, I wish we’d had time in Nashville to cover all sorts of topics, this being one of them. I was just writing an email to friends (and, as with any writing, thinking of how I could turn it into a blog post, lol) about this very subject. I’m off to see your Germ Killing Cleanser!
