Jen,
Wow you are doing great! It must be a lot of fun to have your own chickens. I think my kids would really like to gather the eggs! ;-)

Tami,
So glad you like the prints!

Leslie,
I haven't read it. It sounds great though. I was in Canada about 12 years ago. We were there when the fresh asparagus was coming in. It was wonderful! Thanks for saying hi!

Have you read "The Hundred Mile Diet"? It's a great read about the challenges of living a full year of eating very locally - within a hundred miles of where you live. It's also just become a new series on the Food Network. Can't wait for the warm weather - we live in the the southern Ontario "Greenbelt", so fresh produce is close by, even for city-dwellers like us!

Our chickens just started laying again...yipee, we have our freezer stocked with meat from a local cow that we "split" with friends, and I am getting all my veggies in the ground this week. I am off to a good start, but I admit, I can't pass up my "free with coupon" junk food. I know, I know...it's not long term thinking. hee heee :)

Meredith, I'll email you our sources for local meats and veggies!

Tess, I really like roosters and chickens too...dreaming of the day we get to have our own flock scratching around the yard!

Mother Hen,
At least the hens are cute, sweet and leave nice presents...fresh eggs!

Kimm,
Thanks for the comment! I'm very new to this as well. I'm just changing one area at a time. It helped me to look at what we were eating and try to find a natural or local source for it.

Kelly,
I'm with you on the tomato pic! Fresh tomatoes here we come! I don't even buy the winter tomatoes at the grocery store. They are bland, grainy and never taste anything like the real deal!

Someday I'd love to hear more about your local sources! We joined a CSA for the first time this year, so I have vegetables covered, but I can't quite make the leap to local meat prices.
