Whatever Happened To Being Thankful?
Thankfulness. Contentment. Peacefulness. Giving to others.
These are things I want my life to be full of.
The fun of getting will never compare to the thrill of giving!
We all have so much to be thankful for! The very people considered poor in our Nation are rich compared to the families in other countries.

I have such a stirring in me to grow in gratitude, to simplify and prune off the dead wood in my life. I have so much to be thankful for: I am breathing. I am loved. I have a husband and children. I have food and clothes. A car and a house….and so much more.
Let’s not fall for the trap of advertising.
The goal of an ad is to make us unsatisfied with what we have, how we look, what we drive, where we live.

We all to often fall for the bait, thinking, “If I had….then I’d be happy!” But, how many of us have houses overflowing with things we don’t even remember buying, things we don’t use or need?

What if we had what we needed, were content with that and had more resources to help take care of others?
Growing in thankfulness and being content with what I have…that Works For Me!
But godliness with contentment is great gain.

Thanks for the reminder Laryssa. One of the reasons why I scan my Southern Living Magazine and then look around my home and say, “You might not be right out of a magazine, but you are my HOME and I am thankful.” Thank God for resources to make our homes and lives cozy and beautiful and then the self-discipline to truly enjoy it and not constantly be searching for more. I’m also reminded when I look around our home of how many of the things I treasure here were given to me – from God I received my precious husband and the very gift of eternal life. From mom, family and friends I can start naming the curtains, a blanket, a picture frame, a beautiful piece of artwork… LOL Yes, great gain is truly found in contentment. Love you.

I totally agree with your message today. After my first husband was killed in an auto accident all I wanted to do was buy “stuff”. I was trying to get rid of the emptiness by spending. I wasted so much money and I so regret it. I learned my lesson the hard way. It doesn’t happen very often but when I start wanting more I say a prayer that I will be content with what I have been BLESSED with.

Well said, thank you. Now how to instill that into our kids is the next question!

I agree and we don’t even have to go as far as another country. There are many places in the US where people live like 3rd world countries. I wish everyone would make more of an effort to help the people in their own backyard.

Thank you all for your comments! It’s encouraging to see that others want something different than the thankless, consumer culture that is around us.
