I’ve written about this before, but I’ve gotten so many great things I didn’t want you all to miss out!

Homeschool Freebie Of The Day is so easy to use:

  • Sign up for the email updates.  They will usually send out the week’s offerings on Monday.
  • Go to their site for the new FREE resource of the day.
  • Download to your computer and that’s it!

These wonderful resources would be awesome for homeschoolers, but would also work well for any parent wanting to enrich their child’s education.

Having FREE quality material to help me homeschool my kids…that works for me!

Works For Me Wednesday-More Spa Recipes

The Archeo Copper Bathtub

I promised that I’d give you more spa recipes in my last Works For Me Wednesday post, so here they are!

(Be sure to stop by Rocks In My Dryer for more tips by awesome women!)

There are few things as nice a sinking into a nice hot tub on a cold winter day. I like to use natural products and I work hard to keep my spending low, so homemade bath products are perfect for me!

Last week I told you about the bath salts I use, so this week I’ll share some favorites and some recipes I’d like to try.

Brown Sugar Scrub

1 cup almond meal or ground up oatmeal

1 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 cup of melted coconut oil, almond oil or light vegetable oil

Mix all the ingredients together and use about 1/4 cup every time you scrub. When you are in the shower just take a small handful of the mixture and add a little water to make a paste. Apply to wet skin and scrub gently. Rinse off and your skin will be soft and smooth! This scrub smells good enough to eat (and you could, but I don’t recommend it)!

Here are a few recipes that I’d like to try:

Bath Bombs

Milk and Honey Bath

Bedtime Bath

Come back tomorrow to find out about 5 minute makeup!

Rubber Roast

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Are you like me and pinching those pennies till they squeal?

What do you do when you need to stretch your food budget, but don’t want to eat rice and beans for every meal?

Pot Roast!

No this is not the dry, tough meat you may remember eating once. This is tender, juicy, frugal meat and is super easy as well.

I put a $7 pot roast in my crock pot on Saturday night and let it cook on low until suppertime on Sunday night.  (When I put the roast in the crock pot I added three onions and a little salt. I filled it up about half way with water as well.)

We had the roast with some gravy I made over toast, with some applesauce and mixed veggies on the side. Very tasty! Even my guys, who don’t usually like roast, liked this!

We had it again Monday for lunch as beef burritos. I took some chopped onions, bell pepper, salt and cumin and mixed some of the roast with it.  I put it into whole wheat tortilla wraps with sour cream, cheese, and salsa.  We also had Spanish style millet (made just like Spanish rice, but with more nourishing millet instead) and a small salad.

I’ll be able to make one more meal from this same roast. Probably a beef stew. Have you been keeping count? This will be three meals for 4 people from one small roast! Talk about stretching!

So when your family asks what’s for dinner just tell them rubber roast!

What are some of your favorite frugal meals?

Works For Me Wednesday-Spa Bath On A Budget

Sunday night was one of the most relaxing nights I’ve had in a long time.  I went to a spa!  No…it’s not what you’re thinking.  I didn’t drive to the nearest pampering spot, I just walked into my bathroom!  (My sweet husband got my bath all ready for me!) We are working VERY hard to pay off all our debts, so a spa trip is not in the budget.  But,  I’m not the least bit upset.  Want to know my secret?  Well you’ll just have to come back tomorrow!

No… I wouldn’t do that to y’all!

Here’s spa recipe on the cheap:

Ultimate Relaxing and Skin Softening Bath Salts

(This is enough for two baths, but it’s great to double if you have something to store it in.)

2 Cups of Epsom Salts (you can find large bags of this at any big box store or drugstore)

1/2  Cup Baking Soda

5 Drops of any essential oil ( you can find these at any health food store or Whole Foods, they are very concentrated so don’t add more than a few drops)

Start your water running and pour in about 1 cup of your bath salts.  (Swish the water around while the tub is filling to dissolve the rest of the salts.) Light a few candles, put on some relaxing music and enjoy your spa bath that cost you less than a quarter!

Come back next Wednesday and I’ll share more budget friendly spa recipes!

Head on over to Rocks In My Dryer for more Works For Me Wednesday ideas.

Works For Me Wednesday: Germ Free

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

My Works For Me Wednesday tip is…

Frugal, Non Toxic, Germ Killing Cleaner!

Take two bottles; fill one with peroxide (from the drugstore) and fill the the other with white vinegar.

Spray one then the other, in no particular order, and wipe with a paper towel or cloth.

This spray is non toxic and it kills all the nasties better than straight bleach!

You can use it on your cutting boards, counters, sinks, plastic toys, in the bathroom, and also as a fruit and veggie wash!

“To help kill bacteria such as E. Coli on fruits and vegetables, add a quarter cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide to a sink full of cold water. immerse, rinse with cold water and drain. By killing bacteria this will also help keep fruit and vegetables fresher for longer. You can also use a spray bottle containing a 50/50 mix of 3% hydrogen peroxide and water – just spray and rinse.”
