I think most of us long for simple days.  I know that families in the era of the Little House books had a hard life.   But, they also seemed to have something we don’t…time.  I find it odd that in spite of all our “time saving” gadgets we feel more rushed than ever.

I enjoy reading about simplicity and trying to find ways to quiet my heart and home.  Here are some wonderful links for you to read…join me as we seek simplicity.

Gentleness

Proverbs 15:1
“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but (harsh) grievous words stir up anger.”

Growing In Grace Magazine has just published a wonderful article about gentleness.

Here is what Mrs. D. has to say:

“I truly think that gentleness is an art. Gentleness is something that must be practiced and worked on, not something that just comes to us. It is a Fruit of the Spirit, meaning it is a work of the Holy Spirit, not just a natural thing to us.
Our spirits are always warring with our flesh. Our flesh wants to do whatever it wants, and a lot of times that means we are not too gentle in our delivery.

We live in a harsh world. We live in a loud world. We live in a fast-paced world. We live in a world where there has to be a winner, and the winner is always on top. We live in a world of disappointment, where not everyone can be that prescribed ‘winner’. We live in a world where we usually lack time to stop and be gentle in our speech, so we hurry through, demanding what we need at the moment.”

Contentment

Hebrews 13:5 – Be content with what you have.

Lady Lydia at Home Living Helper has writen one of the most encourging posts I have read in a while.

She says:

“Contentment is found in noticing and mentally drinking in the natural things in life: the sunset, a raindrop on a leaf, the smell of spring, white clouds in a blue sky. Contentment is also attained by appreciating the simple things we use daily and caring for our belongings. From setting a table attractively and appreciating the china and the tablecloth, to dressing carefully in something clean and pretty, we can find contentment. Discontentment comes when our minds have been distracted by the world. Contentment comes from concentrating on things at hand.”

Power Planning!

How would you like to enter the holiday season (Thanksgiving and Christmas), in peace and confidence? Where your gifts are wrapped and placed under a beautiful tree, the house is clean and smells like cinnamon and cloves. Would you like to be rested and ready to be a blessing to your family and able to spend time focusing on the real reason for the holidays-Jesus?
